Here is my 1978 XLCR the way I found it on Craigslist. It was pretty much a barn bike. It took me about 5-6 months looking on E-Bay and other sites to get parts. Since they only made about 3,200 of these bikes for two years (1977-78, and only 9 in 1979), parts were hard to come by. I found a second XLCR on E-Bay, which was not quite as bad, sorry I do not have pictures of that one! |
Here are the finished bikes. I found parts from Los Angeles, Chicago, Ohio and the Netherlands. Some parts were still wrapped in the original AMF brown paper with that musty smell. I have since sold the 1977, and built my Bronson bike. |

I found a 2003 100th anniversary 883 on E-bay. I tricked it out to look like an XR 750. It has the 1200 heads and stage one carburetor system, along with a Storz seat and rear sets. A fun bike to tool around the wine country on and it is without any worries with the Evo motor. |
I have always loved Triumphs like I do Harleys. I especially like the Daytona 500, with twin carburetors. This was my second one, a 1968. I found it on Craigslist and parts on E-Bay. Sorry no before/after photos. Since I was a kid, the Bronson bike, XR 750, XLCR and Triumphs were my dream machines. Now that I am retired, I get to relive those dreams with life size toys. I recently sold the Triumph and I am looking for an XR 1000 to complete the dream. In the meantime, Ill hang in there... |
